To meet the challenge of food security, the Agence Régionale pour l’Agriculture et l’Alimentation (ARAA) has entrusted the INADES-Formation General Secretariat with the task of developing a regional training capacity for food stock managers. The initiative aims to strengthen the skills of those involved in food stock management, in particular managers, elected representatives and technicians from producer organizations. Some thirty participants from these organizations nationwide received training to acquire the knowledge and tools they need to effectively manage local stocks.
Eight modules were taught at this national event. They relate to the governance of cooperative organizations, information management by POs involved in local storage, accounting and financial management, strategies for mobilizing financial resources, and responses to calls for tender from buyers in the context of institutional markets. The training also includes supply and marketing management in proximity storage systems (group supply, feed banks, group marketing), quality management of stored foodstuffs, price risk management by POs carrying out proximity storage, and familiarization with the e-learning platform.
The activity is part of the “Regional strategy for food security storage in West Africa”. This is based on three complementary lines of defense. These include local stocks managed by groups or cooperative organizations, national food security stocks managed by states, and the Regional Food Security Reserve.
